Former football Lion Jim Hoots passes away
Joplin, Mo. -- The Missouri Southern athletic department is sad to announce the passing of former football Lion Jim Hoots, who passed away this past Saturday.
Hoots, a former defensive end for the Lions in the late 1960's and early 1970's, was the first Lion to ever be picked in the NFL Draft. He is one of four Lions to be selected in the draft along with Richard Jordan, Allen Barbre and Brandon Williams.
"We are deeply saddened to hear of Jim's passing," said MSSU Athletic Director Jared Bruggeman. "Jim truly loved Missouri Southern and was heavily involved in many projects, including Southernfest every year. He will be missed and our thoughts and prayers go out to his family."
Hoots passed away this past Saturday, October 26th in his home
in suburban St. Louis. There will be a memorial service this
Saturday, Nov. 2 at 10:00am at St. John's Lutheran Church on 15800
Manchester Rd., Ellisville Mo.
