Before Southern- Played at Fort Scott CC. Pitched in 21 games totalling 18.1 innings, allowed 15 hits, struck out 19. Finished with a record of 1-1 and an ERA of 2.94
In High School- Played at Galena HS under Coach Ken Cook. Started four years as a pitcher, third baseman and right fielder. During his four year career, Mitch earned four First Team All-Conference nods, one All-State nod, and one Joplin Globe All-Area honor. Also starred as a guard on the basketball team, a linebacker on the football team and a jumper/sprinter on the track team. Earning numerous accolades in those sports as well, including an appearance in the Shine Bowl (HS football All-Star game) and in the Army All-Star Game for basketball.
