In High School- Dominated the Southwest Conference as a pitcher and outfielder at McDonald County HS under the coaching of Lee Smith. Finished his junior year with a 1.37 ERA and 60 strikeouts en route to earning First Team All-District, All-Conference and Second Team All-Area. As a senior repeated as a First Team All-District selection after breaking the McDonald County strikeout record.
