Before Southern- Played two years at Three Rivers CC. Pitched a total of 111 innings with 81 strikeouts. Had ERA of 3.55 as a freshman and 4.58 as a sophomore.

In High School- Started for four years at Glendale HS under Coach Howard Bell at pitcher, outfield, and first base. As a sophomore, batted .405 and helped lead the Falcons to a District Championship. As a senior, he was recognized by mosports.com as one of the top senior baseball players in the Show-Me state. He responded by pitching 42 innings striking out 53 and hit .360 en route to earning All-Conference honors and leading his squad to a Conference Title.
