
Cary, NC -- Missouri Southern senior shortstop Jacob Taylor has been named a second-team All-American by the American Baseball Coaches Association today in a ceremony held at the 2010 NCAA Division II Baseball National Championship.
Taylor was named first-team All-Region by the ABCA and was a first-team All-MIAA pick this season, as well as a second-team All-Region selection by Daktronics.
He pounded 15 homers on the season, just one shy of tying the all-time single-season record. Taylor was second on the team in hitting with a .426 average and also had 51 RBIs to go with his 15 long balls.
He led the team with six triples and was tied for the team-lead with 16 doubles on the season. Taylor leads the MIAA in triples, slugging and total bases, while ranking second in homers, third in hits, walks, runs and on base percentage. He also ranks fifth in average, sixth in doubles and 10th in RBIs.
Taylor helped the Lions to a 28-26 record this season and a third place finish in the MIAA Tournament. he was one of six MIAA players to be named to one of the three teams. Central Missouri's Brooks Martin was a first-team selection, while Central's Chance Tuttle and Nebraska-Omaha's Joe Holtmeyer joined Taylor on the second team. Central's Nick DeBiasse and Emporia States David Albritton were named third-team picks.
