Minneapolis, Minn. -- The Missouri Southern baseball team completed the four-game sweep today with a pair of wins against Montana State-Billings, winning game one by the score of 11-6 and taking game two, 7-3.
MSUB (1-4) scored three in the third, but the Lions answered back with a run of their own in the fourth on an RBI ground out from Kolkmeyer scoring Tee Helsel.
The Lions broke the game open in the fifth, scoring seven runs. Wagner, Michael McCoy and Shaun Hoover had RBI singles, while Helsel added an RBI double. The Lions scored three unearned runs in the inning.
Southern added two more runs in the sixth and Billings would score three late, but the damage was done.
Freshman Payton Walker started for the Lions and went three and a third innings, allowing one earned run and striking out three. Kanon Hoover came in and threw the final three and two thirds for the win, striking out three.
Sam Ryan went 3-4 in the game with a pair of runs scored, while Helsel was 2-2 with three runs scored and two RBIs. Kolkmeyer drove in two, while Wagner scored twice.
Game two saw the Lions score two in the first and Billings tie it in the third, but Southern scored five over the final three innings to take the win.
Ryan Bates started and went five innings, scattering eight hits, while allowing just one earned run and striking out five. Bo Bergen threw the final two innings, allowing just one hit and striking out four, while walking none.
McCoy went 2-3 with two RBIs and a pair of runs. Ryan went 2-4, while Wagner drove in two.
The Lions will be back in action next weekend, starting conference play with a weekend series at Lindenwood.
