Joplin, Mo. -- The Missouri Southern baseball team scored early and often and took out Truman 15-8 in the series finale at Joe Becker Stadium today.
The Lions (10-10, 6-8 MIAA) scored a run in the first, six in the second and two in the third to go up 9-0 after three innings. After an unearned run in the first, the Lions scored six in the second. Michael McCoy drove in a run with a single, and Sam Ryan added an RBI single, scoring Zack Steadman. Tee Helsel doubled scoring a run, and Shaun Hoover added an RBI single scoring two. Dane Kolkmeyer drove in Hoover with a single to end the scoring in the inning.
Ryan added an RBI double in the third, scoring Dallas Burke, while Helsel scored Ryan on a single in the inning.
Truman (5-14, 5-13 MIAA) added a run in the fifth and the Lions answered right back with two in their half of the fifth on a two-RBI double from Ryan.
The Bulldogs added a run in each of the sixth and seventh innings, before breaking out for four in the top of the eighth. Southern added four more in the bottom of the eighth, before Truman scored a run in the ninth.
Ryan went 4-6 in the game with five RBIs and two runs scored. Helsel was 3-6 with a pair of RBIs and a run scored, while Hoover drove in two and scored twice. Every Lion in the lineup scored at least once today.
Drew Noble started and threw 6.2 innings, while striking out five and allowing just two earned runs to pick up his third win of the season. Kanon Hoover and Bo Bergen threw a third of an inning each, while David Reese threw the final inning and two thirds to pick up the save.
The Lions will be back in action this Wednesday with a double-header at Northeastern State beginning at 1 pm.
