Joplin, Mo. - The Gold team defeated the Green team 6-0 this morning in the annual Green & Gold Spring Game at Fred G. Hughes Stadium.
The Gold team, consisting of the number one offense against the number two and three defenses would score the game's lone touchdown in the third quarter on a six-yard run by sophomore quarterback Jay McDowell.
With neither team scoring in the first half, the Gold team would get on the board midway through the third quarter when sophomore wide receiver Will Cuffee would have a pair of big plays to get down the field to set up McDowell's touchdown run. Starting the drive on the Green's 30-yard line, Cuffee would have a 32-yard run down to the Green's 38-yard line and then answer with a 32-yard reception down to the six-yard line. The point after attempt would be no good going wide right.
The Green team, consisting of the number one defense against the number two and three offenses would respond with a drive of their own aided by a number of long runs from redshirt freshman quarterback Ricky Nichols getting down to the Gold's 10-yard line before turning the ball over to the Green team which would be recovered by senior safety Demon Haire.
The Green team would have one final attempt to get a touchdown marching down to the south endzone on a number of nice runs from junior running back Trevante Ebron getting down to the four-yard line before Nichols was sacked on fourth-down by junior defensive end Ryon Phillips to turn the ball over to Gold.
