11 players named to MIAA Football Academic Honor Roll; Forchu named Scholar-Athlete

Kansas City, Mo. - The Missouri Southern Lions football team had 11 players named to the MIAA Academic Honor Roll as announced by the league office today. In addition, sophomore running back Giresse Forchu was named a MIAA Scholar-Athlete.

To be eligible for the honor roll, a student athlete must have a cumulatve grade point average of at least a 3.0 and have at least two terms of attendance at the school. To be eligible for the MIAA Scholar Athlete Award, those student-athletes must have a 3.50 grade point average, at least two terms of attendance at the school and, if competing in a championship sport of the MIAA, earn All-MIAA honors.

The Lions named to the honor roll include seniors William Flores, Demond Horsley, Paco Varol, juniors Beau Bounous, Chance Mayden, Ryon Phillips and Austin Wolfe, sophomores Anthony Thayer, Justin Tomlinson, Forchu and redshirt freshman Ricky Nichols.  

Forchu earned MIAA Scholar-Athlete Award after being named CoSIDA Academic All District on Nov. 7. Carrying a perfect 4.0 GPA in biology, the Forney, Tex. native earned All-MIAA honorable mention after finishing the year with 526 rushing yards on 114 carries and five touchdowns. Starting all 10 games at running back, Forchu also caught four passes for 123 yards and a touchdown.
