Prior to Southern - Rivera prepped at Akins High School in Austin, Texas, where he was a two-year starter on the basketball court ... as a sophomore he averaged five points and two rebounds, while dishing two assists per game ... His junior year, he averaged 9 points, two rebounds and three assists, while he bumped that up to 11 points, 3.0 rebounds and 5.0 assists per game in his senior campaign ... He helped his team to a Bi-District Championship in 2010-11, and was the team's Defender of the Year in both 09-10, and 10-11 ... Rivera also was active on both the track and field and cross country teams in high school. 

Personal - Rivera is the son of Paul Riveral and Sheryl Holmes-Rivera ... he is majoring in criminal justice at Southern.
