Men's basketball picked 6th/9th in MIAA Preseason Polls

Preseason Interview with Coach Robert Corn

Kansas City, Mo. -- The Missouri Southern men's basketball team has been picked to finish sixth in the coaches poll and ninth in the media poll as the MIAA released its preseason polls today.

The Lions received a first-place vote in each poll. Southern returns its entire team from a season ago, with the exception of senior center Bryan Adams. Adams suffered a leg injury last month and will miss the entire season. The Lions return All-MIAA performers in Marquis Addison and Jordan Talbert and welcome in a talented crop of newcomers.

Fort Hays was picked to win the league in both polls. In the coaches' poll, Northwest Missouri was second, followed by Central Missouri, Northeastern State, Central Oklahoma, Southern, Washburn, Pittsburg State, Emporia State and Lindenwood round out the top ten. Missouri Western, Southwest Baptist, Nebraska-Kearney and Lincoln are the final four teams in the coaches poll.

Hays had 13 of the 27 first-place votes in the media poll as the top four teams were the same in both polls. Washburn was fifth in the media poll, followed by Central Oklahoma, Pittsburg State, Lindenwood, Southern and Emporia State to round out the top ten. Western, Southwest Baptist, Nebraska-Kearney and Lincoln finished out the poll.

The Lions had 104 votes in the coaches poll, just nine behind fifth-place Central Oklahoma. In the media poll, only ten votes separated seventh-place PSU and the Lions.

Southern will open their season on Oct. 29 when the Lions travel to Springfield to take on Missouri State in an exhibition game. Tip-off is slated for 7:35 pm. The Lions will also be at Arkansas on Nov. 1 to take on the Razorbacks before opening up the regular season on Nov. 8 and 9 at a tournament in Las Vegas. The Lions will face off with St. Mary's and Eastern New Mexico.
