Joplin, Mo. - Missouri Southern senior golfer David Eddy shot an even par 72, good enough for second-place overall and the Lions are in fourth place as a team after day one of the 2010 MSSU Spring Invitational.
Eddy shot a 36 on both sides of the course to end up one stroke off the leader, Kyle Fouts of Northeastern State.
Southern's gold team was led by senior Taylor Griffith as he is tied for 13th with a first-round 76. Sophomore Jared Essary had an 81, while seniors Chris Needham and Adam Nelson shot an 82 and 88, respectively.
Fort Hays is in first place after day one, shooting a 302 as a team. Southwest Baptist is three strokes back, while Northeastern State sits four strokes back at 306. Southern and Southwestern Oklahoma State are tied for fourth at a 309, while Central Missouri, Washburn, Truman, Lincoln, Pittsburg State, Missouri Western and the MSSU Gold team round out the field.
Action resumes tomorrow morning at Twin Hills Golf & Country Club with the first tee times to start at 7:50 am.
