Southern golf in 8th after day one at Lindenwood

St. Charles, Mo. -- Freshman Ben Starkey is tied for 12th and the Missouri Southern golf team is tied for 8th after day one of the Lindenwood Invitational at Whitmor Country Club. 

Starkey shot a first-round 76 to finish four over for the day. Ryan Buerk shot a 78 and is tied for 24th, while Andy Hogenmiller, Andrew Maier and Elliot Soyez all shot an 81 and are tied for 43rd. 

Central Missouri shot a 292 to lead all teams after round one of this MIAA points event. Central Oklahoma is second, followed by Northeastern State, Washburn, Missouri Western, Lindenwood, Southwest Baptist, Southern, Missouri Baptist and Nebraska-Kearney to round out the top ten. Pittsburg State, Lincoln, Fort Hays and Henderson State were 11th-14th, respectively.

The Lions will finish up the tournament tomorrow with 18 holes.
