Southern golf in third place after day one at Arkansas Tech

Danville, Ark. -- The Missouri Southern golf team sits in third place after day one of the Dave Falconer Memorial Classic hosted by Arkansas Tech University on Chamberlyne Country Club.

Redshirt freshman Skyler Arbuckle, senior Andy Hogenmiller and junior Ryan Buerk lead the Lions after day one with a first-round, four-over 76. With conditions not very favorable, only two golfers in the entire field shot at par, and no one shot below. All three athletes are tied for ninth.

Juniors Andrew Maier and Ryan Russell shot a 77 and 79, respectively to finish the day tied for 20th and 26th overall.

The Lions, as a team, are tied for third with a 305 team total, just two shots behind first-place Midwestern State. Henderson State is at a 304 in second, while Arkansas Tech's A team is tied with Southern and Southern Nazarene is in fifth at 311.

Arkansas Tech's B team is in sixth, while Southwestern Oklahoma State, Southeastern Oklahoma State, Missouri Western, Lincoln, Ouachita Baptist, Southern Arkansas and Purdue-North Central round out the field.

The Lions will finish off the tournament with round two tomorrow morning.
