Lions Golf in fourth place after day one at Arkansas-Fort Smith Classic

Fort Smith, Ark. -- The Missouri Southern golf team is in fourth place after day one of the Arkansas-Fort Smith Lions Classic held at Hardscrabble Country Club. 

Junior Ryan Buerk leads the Lions and is tied for third overall after shooting a first-round, two over par 72. Freshman Skyler Arbuckle is 19th after a 77, while senior Andy Hogenmiller shot a first-round 78. Junior Andrew Maier and freshman Ben Starkey shot an 80 and 82, respectively. 

The Lions shot a team total of 307, just eight shots off the leader, Newman. Oklahoma Christian (302) is in second, while Dallas Baptist (306) is in third. Southern is in fourth, followed by Southeastern Oklahoma State (311) to round out the top five. 

Southern will finish out the tournament tomorrow with the final 18 holes.
