Hollister, Mo. -- The Missouri Southern golf team is in a tie for fifth after day one of the First Federal Bank Invite, hosted by Henderson State University at Branson Creek CC.
The Lions are led by Ryan Russell as the junior shot a 37 and a 38 to card a first-round 75 and sits in a tie for 15th. Junior Ryan Buerk and freshman Ben Starkey both shot a 76, while junior Andrew Maier and sophomore Adam Johnson shot a 78 and 79, respectively.
The Lions, as a team, shot a 305 and are just one shot out of fourth place. Host Henderson State shot a 288 as a team, while St. Cloud State was second with a 293 and Sioux Falls was in third with a 298. Fort Hays (304) was fourth, followed by Southern, Newman and Delta State at 305 to round out the top five.
Central Baptist was eighth, followed by Murray State CC, and Rockhurst to round out the team totals.
Southern will finish up the final 18 holes tomorrow morning.
