Southern golf improves in day two and places 7th at MSSU Invitational

Joplin, Mo. -- Missouri Southern junior Ryan Buerk continued his solid play from day one and shot a 73 in the final round to finish in third place individually and the Lions finished in seventh place as a team today at the 2013 MSSU Invitational at Twin Hills Golf and Country Club. 

Buerk shot a one under on the front nine and finished strong to place third overall. Ryan Russell shot a 72, nine strokes better than day one and finished with a 155 and tied for 21st. Andy Hogenmiller shot a two-day 157, while Skyler Arbuckle shot a 161 and Adam Johnson finished with a 168. 

Central Oklahoma picked up the team and individual titles as Trevor Stafford shot a six-under on the day to finish four-under for the tournament and pick up the individual title. The Bronchos finished with a 590, 11 strokes in front of second-place Central Missouri (601). Nebraska-Kearney (608) was third, followed by Northeastern State (609) and Washburn (614) to round out the top five. 

Fort Hays was sixth, followed by Southern, Missouri Western, Lindenwood, Lincoln, Pittsburg State and Southwest Baptist. 

The Lions will be back in action next week, participating in the 2013 MIAA Golf Tournament at Paradise Pointe Golf Course in Smithville, Mo. Play will begin with 36 holes on Monday and 18 on Tuesday.
