Axtell, Neb. -- The Missouri Southern golf team is in tenth place after the first two rounds of the 2013 Nebraska-Kearney Fall Invite held at Awarri Dunes GC in Axtell, Nebraska.
The highlight of the day for the Lions was junior Ryan Buerk as he started his morning round going birdie, birdie and eagle. The eagle was a hole in one on the 196-yard, par 3 11th hole. Buerk finished the first round shooting 80, and shot a 77 in round two to finish 157 and tied for 46th.
Senior Andrew Maier had the low rounds of the day, shooting a 78 in round one and a 74 in round two to finish at 152 and tied for 26th. Freshman Taylor Lansford shot an 81 and a 78 to finish at 159, while sophomore Ethan Hutcheson shot a 163 and and senior Ryan Russell finished with a 164.
Host Nebraska-Kearney hold the first-day lead after shooting a two-round team total of 581. Lindenwood is second, just four strokes back, while Fort Hays, Central Oklahoma and Central Missouri round out the top five. Northeastern State, Missouri Western, Midland University, Washburn, Southern, Pittsburg State, Lincoln and Southwest Baptist round out the team totals.
Southern will play a final 18 holes tomorrrow to round out the tournament.
