Warrensburg, Mo. -- The Missouri Southern men's cross country team placed eighth out of 15 teams today at the 2010 NCAA Division II South Central Regional meet while Jarkko Jarvenpaa finished fifth and qualified for the national meet.
Jarvenpaa traversed the 10k course in a time of 31:46.04, finishing fifth and qualifying for the national meet. He bested his 2009 regional time by nearly 30 seconds.
Freshman Jake Benton was 19th with a time of 32:59.70, while sophomore Nick Niggemann placed 31st. Sophomore Sam Pogue and freshman Viktor Kuk placed 56th and 58th, respectively, while freshman Alex Mason and sophomore Michael Weis were 90th and 99th, respectively.
The race featured 15 teams and 116 runners. Central Missouri picked up the team title besting Abilene Christian by 14 points. Both Central and ACU qualify their teams for the national meet in Louisville, while Pittsburg State's Adam Volkert will join Jarvenpaa as the individual qualifiers from the region.
Jarvenpaa will race at the national meet in Louisville on December 4.
