Southern men in fifth place after day one of 2011 MIAA Championships
Emporia, Kan. -- The Missouri Southern men's track and field team is in fifth place after day one of the 2011 MIAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships hosted by Emporia State University.
John Lowe earned All-MIAA status for the Lions after a third place finish in the pole vault. He hit a height of 15-5.5,w hile Caleb Carney was sixth in the event with a height of 14-11.5.
In other action, Clark Tanksley and Jerry Jones both picked up points for Southern with Tanksley placing fourth in the long jump with a distance of 22-8 and Jones placing seventh. Jake Benton also scored points for Southern with a sixth-place finish in the 10k, crossing the finish line in a time of 33:13.24, while Kevin Wright qualified for the finals of the 400m hurdles.
The Lions will finish up the championships tomorrow.
