Reynolds takes home high jump title as Lions men finish fifth at 2011 MIAA Championships
Emporia, Kan. - Corey Reynolds won the high jump as the Missouri Southern men's track and field team finished fifth at the 2011 MIAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships hosted by Emporia State University.
Reynolds hit a provisional height of 6-11, winning the event and earning All-MIAA honors, while placing him tops in the MIAA this year, and tenth-best in Division II. Clark Tanksley placed fifth in the event with a provisional height of 6-8.75.
Aki Nummela was second in the 5k with a time of 15:51.59 and picked up All-MIAA honors in the process. He also placed fifth in the 1,500m run with a time of 3:57.61. Jake Benton was 8th in the 5k with a time of 16:14.63.
The Lions' 4x100m relay team of Maurlon Bembry, Tanksley, Kevin Wright and Andrew Wright placed fourth with a time of 41.59, while the 4x400m relay team of Andrew Wright, Tanksley, Zach Reece and Caleb Carney were fifth with a 3:19.25.
In all, the Lions had three athletes earn All-MIAA status at the outdoor championships as John Lowe was All-MIAA in the pole vault, Reynolds in the high jump and Nummela in the 5k.
The Lions will have one last meet before the national meet as any athletes still needing to improve national marks will be competing in the Emporia State last chance on May 14.
