Thomas in first place in heptathlon after day one of MSSU Lion Invite

Joplin, Mo. -- Sophomore Jayce Thomas is in first-place in the heptathlon after day one as the Missouri Southern men's track and field team competed in the MSSU Lion Invite at the Leggett & Platt Athletic Center today.

Thomas won the long jump and the high jump and has a 79 point lead over second place with 2,634 points. He has the 60m hurdles, the pole vault and the 1,000m tomorrow to finish out the event. 

Evan Moore picked up a provisional and won the weight throw with a distance of 58-03.25. Dustin Green was fifth, while Nicklas Polizzi placed 17th. 

Jeff Fraley and Jazz Allen both had the top times and qualified for the finals of the 60m dash and 60m hurdles, respectively. Erron Holley also qualified in the 60m dash. Anthony Price was fifth and had a provisional in the 200m with a time of 22.48, while the DMR team of Andrew Webster, Allen, Miles Migliara and Colton Wooldridge placed second in the event. 

Clark Tanksley placed sixth in the long jump with a distance of 22-08.5, while Jacob Rowe, Michael Juergens and Darion Boure placed 7th, 9th and 10th in the event. 

Day two of the meet will begin at 9 am tomorrow morning with the conclusion of the men's heptathlon.
