Jake Benton named CoSIDA Academic All-American

Joplin, Mo. -- Missouri Southern junior distance runner Jake Benton has been named to the Capitol One/College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-America Team as announced by the organization today. 

Benton, a third-team pick and a native of Wentzville, Mo., was an All-MIAA and All-Region pick this year in cross country. He helped the Lions to an 8th place finish at the 2012 NCAA Division II Cross Country National Championships which was held in Joplin.

He was also named to the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association All-Academic team for cross country this past season. 

To be named to this honor, an individual must maintain a cumulative 3.30 GPA and first be named to their respective Academic All-District team. Benton and teammate Jeff Fraley were both named Academic All-District. 

Benton maintains a 3.952 in biology and pre-med at Missouri Southern.
