Men's track and field picked to finish third in 2013-14 MIAA preseason Coaches Poll

Kansas City, Mo. -- The Missouri Southern men's track and field program has been picked to finish third in the 2013-14 MIAA indoor track and field preseason coaches poll, the league announced today.

The Lions finished third last year in the indoor MIAA Championships behind Central Missouri and Pittsburg State. Southern returns four All-MIAA performers from last season in Jeff Fraley (60m and 200m), Clark Tanksley (high jump), Darion Boure (triple jump) and Jayce Thomas (heptathlon). Fraley was the champion in the 200m and will look to defend his title this season.

The Lions had six All-Region performers and qualified six athletes for the indoor national championships, with all but two returning to this year's squad.

Central Missouri earned seven of the ten first-place votes and had 79 points. Pittsburg State picked up three first-place votes, but had only three more points (70) to Southern's 67 in the voting. Emporia State was picked fourth, followed by Nebraska-Kearney, Lincoln, Southwest Baptist, Fort Hays, Northwest Missouri and Lindenwood to round out the poll.

The Lions open up the indoor season on December 6-7 at Central Missouri and have their first home meet scheduled for January 10-11.
