Fraley qualifies for nationals and breaks 200m indoor record in first day of Lion Invite

Joplin, Mo. -- Missouri Southern sprinter Jeff Fraley qualified for nationals in the 200m and broke the school record in the process as the Lions competed in the first day of the MSSU Lion Invite today inside the Leggett & Platt Athletic Center.

Fraley won the 200m with a time of 21.63. The mark equals what he ran in the prelims of the 2013 Division II Championships, but because of a banked surface, that time would be converted to a higher time on a flat surface. The mark is the top mark so far in Division II this season. Erron Holley was seventh in the event, while Anthony Price placed 11th and Tylor Albright was 48th.

Fraley also qualified first for the finals of the 60m dash with a time of 6.77. That time is .01 better than his previous provisional mark and moves him up to third best in Division II a the moment. Holly and Price failed to qualify, but finished 8th and tenth, respectively in the event.

In the long jump, Darion Boure placed sixth with a distance of 6.90m, while Clark Tanksley and Albright placed 8th and 11th, respectively. Bryan Burns and Nicklas Polizzi placed 7th and 9th in the weight throw, while the men's DMR team of Tyler Rush, Clark Tanksley, Miles Migliara and Andrew Webster placed second with a provisional time of 10:16.89.

Eric Schott picked up a provisional and won the 5k with a time of 14:38.43. It is one of just four provisionals so far this season in the event. Adrian Todd was ninth in a time of 15:48.09.

The Lions will be back at it tomorrow with the final day of the event. Action kicks off at 9 am.
