Southern men picked to finish second in 2011 MIAA Preseason Coaches Poll
Kansas City, Mo. -- The Missouri Southern men's cross country team has been picked to finish second in the 2011 MIAA Preseason Cross Country Poll as released by the league today.
The poll, conducted by the league's coaches, has the Lions tied with Pittsburg State, as both teams trail the preseason favorite, Central Missouri. Southern was second at last year's MIAA Championships and sent senior Jarrko Jarvenpaa to the national meet.
Central earned all but one first place vote, with the Lions picking up the other. Southern was second, tied with PSU, while Northwest Missouri was fourth followed by Southwest Baptist to round out the top five. Fort Hays was sixth, followed by Truman and Emporia.
The Lions will open up the 2011 season with a meet at the University of Arkansas on September 2. The complete poll is below.
