Joplin, Mo. - The Missouri Southern cross country programs will play host to one of the largest cross country meets in the country this Saturday when the 23rd annual Missouri Southern Stampede will be ran at the MSSU Cross Country Course.
The women's collegiate race begins at 8:30 am, with the men running at 9:15 am. The high school girls varsity race begins at 10:15 am, with the boys varsity race starting at 11 am. The JV races will begin at 11:30 for the girls and noon for the boys.
The day will see nearly 2,000 runners traverse the course with more than 50 high schools and nearly 50 collegiate teams competing.
On the men's side, East Central (17th) is the only top 25 program in the division II ranks, while Arkansas (15th) is ranked in the top 25 in division I. Three different division I schools will run in the event with Houston and Tulsa joining Arkansas.
On the women's side, the Missouri Southern women come into the race ranked 17th. Midwestern State is 12th, while Harding is 20th. Four division I teams will be competing on the women's side with Missouri State, Arkansas, Houston and Tulsa all fielding teams.
All of the action begins at 8:30 on Saturday monring.
