Joplin, Mo. -- The Missouri Southern men's cross country team placed third in a tight finish today at the 2011 MIAA Cross Country Championships held at the MSSU Cross Country Course.
The Lions were paced by sophomore Jake Benton as he finished the 8k course seventh with a time of 24:28.55 and earned All-MIAA status. Freshman Eric Schott was the MIAA Freshman of the Year, placing ninth with a time of 24:33.38, while freshman Andrew Webster was tenth with a time of 24:37.09. All three were named All-MIAA.
Adrian Todd placed 20th with a time of 25:05.08 to earn honorable mention All-MIAA status. Colton Wooldridge was 28th in a time of 25:25.32, while Andrew Webb placed 33rd. Trey Berry and Sam Pogue were 42nd and 44th, respectively, while Alex Mason and Tony Crowder placed 56th and 62nd.
Central Missouri won the event with a team score of 53. Northwest Missouri narrowly edged the Lions 73-74 as Southern placed third. Pittsburg State placed fourth (80), while Southwest Baptist (111), Fort Hays, (151), and Emporia State (191) and Truman (191) rounded out the team scores.
The Lions will be back in action on November 5 when they travel to Wichital Falls, Texas for the NCAA Division II South Central Regional Meet.
