Joplin, Mo. -- Both Missouri Southern men's and women's cross country teams have earned the Team Academic Award given by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association, the group announced today.
To qualify as a USTFCCCA All-Academic Cross Country Team, the team must have a cumulative team GPA of 3.00 or better and have compiled a score (finished at least five runners) at their respective NCAA regional championship.
The Lions' women checked in with a 3.43 team GPA, which ranked fourth in the MIAA. Truman and Central Missouri tied for first with a 3.73 mark, while Pitt State had a 3.55 team GPA. Southern was at a 3.43, while Northwest Missouri (3.35), Fort Hays (3.33), and Southwest Baptist (3.10) rounded out the MIAA representatives on the list.
On the men's side, the Lions checked in with a 3.23 team GPA, which ranked third in the league. Truman had a 3.71 GPA, while Emproia State had a 3.26. Southern had a 3.23, while Central Missouri (3.22), Fort Hays (3.13) and Southwest Baptist (3.01) rounded out the MIAA teams on the list.
