Cross Country teams open season today at Arkansas

Joplin, Mo. -- The Missouri Southern men's and women's cross country teams will open up the 2012 season tonight as they race at the Unviersity of Arkansas in a twilight meet. 

The Southern men come into the season, ranked fifth in the NCAA Division II Central Region. The Lions are the second-highest ranked MIAA team in the region behind Central Missouri at No. 3. Augustana and East Central take up the No. 1 and 2 spots in the region, while Central, Minnesota State, Southern, Northwest Missouri, Pittsburg State, Harding, Southwest Baptist and Minnesota-Duluth round out the top ten. 

The men's race tonight is slated to begin at 6 pm. 

The Southern women come into the race at Arkansas ranked sixth in the region to start the season. The Lions are the third-highest ranked team from the MIAA as Pittsburg State and Northwest Missouri are third and fifth, respectively. Augustana is No. 1 in the region, while Mary, Pittsburg State, Minnesota-Duluth, Northwest Missouri, Southern, Southwest Baptist, Harding, Winona State and Truman round out the top ten. 

The women's race will begin at 5:30 pm.
