Men's cross country finishes second at 2012 Southern Stampede

Joplin, Mo. -- The Missouri Southern men's cross country team had a great showing today as the Lions finished second and sophomore Eric Schott was third individually in the 24th running of the Southern Stampede. 

The Lions were the top Division II team in the race, trailing only Division I Tulsa in the team standings. 

Schott was the top Division II runner in the event, finishing the 8k course in a time of 25:08.35. Adrian Todd was 11th at 25:33.94 and Jake Benton placed 14th with a time of 25:43.49. 

Andrew Webster placed 22nd, while Colton Wooldridge and Ryan Jackson 32nd and 34th. Nathan Henry placed 60th. 

The Lions scored 72 points as a team, trailing only Tulsa who scored 41. The Lions also defeated three other Division II ranked opponents as No. 14 Eastern New Mexico finished fourth, No. 16 East Central finished 10th and No. 29 Alabama-Huntsville was eighth. 

The Lions will be off a week, but will return to action on September 29 when Southern travels to Stillwater for the Oklahoma State Jamboree.
