Men's cross country places second and qualifies for NCAA nationals

Joplin, Mo. -- The Missouri Southern men's cross country team qualified for the 2012 NCAA Division II National Championships in two weeks with a second place finish today in the Central Region Championships held at the MSSU Cross Country Course. 

The Lions are going back to the National Championships for the fifth time in the last seven years and it's the fourth time in the last six years that both the men's and women's teams have qualified for nationals in the same year. 

Southern had three individuals earn All-Region honors as Eric Schott led the way with a fifth place finish in a time of 30:27.3. Jake Benton placed 13th with a time of 30:43.1, while Adrian Todd placed 19th in a time of 30:52.2. 

Andrew Webster and Colton Wooldridge were 26th and 40th with times of 31:01.1 and 31:25.0, respectively. Ryan Jackson and Nick Niggemann placed 94th and 140th, respectively. 

Augustana won the team title with 31 points, while Southern finished second with 98 points. Minnesota State was third with 108 points and Southwest Baptist placed fourth with 116 points. All four teams qualify for nationals in two weeks.

Cory Keehn of Fort Hays, Billy Brockmueller of Sioux Falls, and Tyler Stuber of Central Missouri will qualify as individuals for the nationals. 

The 2012 NCAA Division II National Championships will be run at the MSSU Cross Country course on November 17th in Joplin.
