2013: Earned All-MIAA and All-Region honors for a third straight year as a senior finishing as the Lions highest finisher at the Central Regional Championship running the 10k course in 31:58.47 to finish ninth earning All-Region honors...Was Southern's second finisher at the MIAA Championships running the 8k course in a time of 25:02.95 to finish seventh earning All-MIAA honors...Placed 103rd at the NCAA Championships as he was Southern's second fastest finisher running 32:19.9...Finished 25th at the Chile Pepper Festival hosted by the University of Arkansas as he was the Lions second finisher running the 8k course in 25:18.4...Finished third at the Southern Stampede running the 8k course in 24:40.51...Finished 13th in the season-opening double dual at Arkansas running the 6.6k course in a time of 20:41.7.

2012: An All-MIAA performer and All-Region honoree as a junior, Benton was one of the Lions top runners in 2012 finishing 9th on the 8k course in 25:50.75 at the MIAA Championships while finishing 13th at the Central Regional finishing the 10k course in 30:43.10...Was the Lions fourth finisher at the NCAA DII National Championships where he finished 105th overall in a time of 31:34.20...Was named a Cross Country All-America Academic Honoree....Finished 7th overall at the Missouri S&T Jackling Jocks Invite helping the Lions take home the team title...Finished 14th overall at the Southern Stampede finishing the 8k course in 25:43.49.

2011: Was once again the top runner for the Lions as a sophomore, Benton earned All-MIAA honors with a 7th place finish at the MIAA Championships where he covered the 8k course in a career-best 24:28.55...Followed that performance with a 24th place finish at the South Central Regional Championship, covering the 10k course in 32:32.10, earning All-Region honors....Took 5th at the Missouri S&T Jackling Jocks Invite covering the 5-mile course in a time of 25:54, helping lead the Lions to the team title...Was the Lions top finisher at the Arkansas Invitational, placing 8th in the 6.6k course in a time of 21:05.06....was named to the US Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association All-Academic Team

2010: Was a top runner for the Lions in his freshman season... At the UCM Mule Run was the top runner for the Lions with a 10th place finish in 21:53.96 for the 6.4k run... Ran a season best 8k in 25:40.62 at the Greater Louisville Cross Country Classic... Helped the Lions to a runner-up finish at the MIAA Championships, placing 18th... Was the second finisher for the Lions and the top freshman finisher at the South Central Regional Championships, placing 19th, covering the 10k course in 32:59.70; Indoor: Competed in the mile, 3k, and 5k runs... Had a season best performance in the 5k at the Iowa State Classic, placing 15th with a time of 15:22.72... Ran the 3k and 5k at the MIAA Championships with a 11th and 5th place finish, respectively.

In High School - a four-year letter winner in both cross country and track for coach Matt Steinhoff at Ft. Zumwalt North High School. He was the conference and district champion in cross country his senior year, as well as a conference champion in the mile, two-mile, and the 4x800m relay team. He was also the district champion in two mile and 4x800m. He holds the school record in the two mile and the 4x800m relay.
