Joplin, Mo. – The Missouri Southern Athletic Department will recognize this Friday two local businesses in conjunction with improvements made to Lea Kungle Field in the fall of 2010-spring 2011. The ceremony will be held in between the conference double header against Fort Hays State at approximately at 5:45 PM.
Starting in the fall of 2010 and concluding this February, work was done on Lea Kungle Field at the Missouri Southern Softball Complex to improve the look of the field, as well as add some comfort and safety to the athletes participating.
In all, the following improvements were made:
New dugouts were added - visitor side measuring 15'x30', while the home side measures 15'x40' with a 6'x40' storage area attached. The red split face block was donated by Joplin Building Material.
A special thank you from the softball program goes out to Snyder Construction for helping to tear down and level out the old.
In addition to the dugouts, five 10x10 hitting stations were added around the batting cage. Two new 25 foot tall foul poles were added, and two bullpens measuring 25x60 feet were constructed beyond the outfield fence. A new six foot tall fence was added while the centerfield wall measures eight feet tall. New dimensions of the field were changed to 205 feet down the left field line, 196 feet to right and 225 to center. A new green vinyl hitter's eye was placed in center field, as well.
