Joplin, Mo. -- The Missouri Southern softball team dropped two games today in the Terri Mathis-Zenner Tournament, falling 7-5 to St. Mary's and 5-0 to St. Edwards.
The Lions took a 3-0 led into the fifth inning before St. Mary's would start a comeback scoring one in the fifth and six in the sixth innings to take a 7-3 lead. The Lions would start a rally of their own in the bottom of the seventh coming up just short and dropping game one 7-5.
Senior Alysha Poteat went 2-for-3 at the plate with one run scored and one RBI. Sophomore Haley Pypes got the start in the circle for the Lions and would go five innings allowing only one run before junior Hannah Cooke (0-6) would come in relief and suffer the loss.
Senior Breanna Volkmann and Pypes led the way offensively with two hits each while junior Kayce Moore suffered the loss inside the circle for the Lions giving up five runs, four earned, on eight hits.
