Kansas City, Mo. - Senior pitcher Hannah Cooke was named MIAA Softball Pitcher of the Week today, as announced by the conference office.
Helping the Lions sweep a double-header against Newman Saturday, Cooke, a senior from San Ramon, Calif., threw a complete game six-hitter only allowing two runs, one earned in a 6-2 win over the Jets. She would record a 1.00 ERA while holding Jets hitters to a .222 batting average on the afternoon.
She is now 2-0 on the year in five appearances with a 2.62 ERA in 21.1 innings with four starts, two complete games, including a shutout surrendering only eight earned runs while holding opponents to a .241 batting average. This is Cooke's second player of the week award after earning one as a last spring as a junior.
The Lions return to action Saturday when they host the 2013 Missouri Southern Border Battle hosted at Lea Kungle Field and Wild Field at Robert W. Plaster Sports Complex playing Central Missouri at 2 pm. The Lions follow their matchup with the Jennies by facing Upper Iowa at 4 and 6 pm.
