Three Southern Softball players named All-MIAA

Kansas City, Mo. - Three Missouri Southern softball players were named All-MIAA as announced by the league office today. Junior right fielder Shelby Romines was selected to the second-team, while sophomore Brooke Swadley and freshman Alana Hester were honorable mention selections.

Starting all 50 games in right field as a junior for the Lions, Romines led Southern with a .364 batting average collecting a team-high 56 hits scoring 33 runs while hitting a team-high 13 doubles and seven home runs on the year. The Ozark, Mo. native drove in a team-high 40 runs, while totaling a club-high 92 total bases on the year. She led the Lions with a team-high .597 slugging percentage while drawing a team-high 27 walks while leading the club with a team-high on-base percentage of .457.

She would reach base in 42 of Southern's 50 contests recording 16 multi-hit games while recording home runs in six of Southern's first 15 games. She was named the MIAA Player of the Week on February 19 after helping the Lions win five of six games at the Five State Classic in Arkansas hitting .500 on the weekend going 10-for-20 from the plate smacking four home runs, a double, driving in 10 runs, while scoring nine runs and totaling 23 bases. She would drive in a season-high five runs in a 12-3 win over Illinois-Springfield with a three-run double and a two-run home run while going 4-for-5 with a double while scoring a pair of runs and driving in a run in a 11-8 win at Pittsburg State in eight innings. Romines would also have standout games against Washburn going 3-for-4 with four RBI's and 4-for-4 against Lindewood.

Starting 44 games at second base as a sophomore for the Lions, Swadley hit .278 on the year with 37 hits, including seven doubles and a triple while scoring 21 runs and driving in 16. The Purdy, Mo. native was second on the team in steals with six while leading the team in sacrifice hits with seven. She had a pair of three-hit games during the year going 3-for-4 against Upper Iowa with a double scoring a pair of runs while also going 3-for-3 against Northeastern State. She also scored a season-high three runs in Southern's 12-3 win over Illinois-Springfield.

Starting all 50 games in center field as a freshman for the Lions, Hester was third on the team with a .306 batting average while ranking second on the team in hits with 53 while scoring a team-high 41 runs in the leadoff role. Tied for the team lead in triples with four, Hester led Southern and finished third in the MIAA in stolen bases with 25 swipes. The Wildwood, Mo. native scored a season-high four runs in Southern's 14-13 victory over Southern Nazarene at the Five State Classic while also stealing a season-high five bases. Hester also had nice performances on the year in the Lions' 11-8 extra-inning win at Pittsburg State hitting a three-run double and in a 12-0 win at Lindenwood where she collected three hits, including a three-run triple while also scoring a pair of runs.
