Joplin, Mo. - Northeastern (Okla.) State tied an opponent record as they knocked down 15 three-pointers as they handed Missouri Southern a 67-50 loss on Monday night in the Leggett and Platt Athletic Center.
Missouri Southern started off where they left off in Fort Smith, Arkansas by jumping out to a 7-3 lead at the 15:00 minute mark of the first half.
Northeastern then went on a 14-7 run to close out the first half and head into the locker room with a 34-21 lead.
The Lions were led in the first half by sophomore Erin Rice who tallied 14 points in just 17 minutes of play. The RiverHawks were led by Tosha Tyler, which recorded 14 points on four-of-five shooting, all from downtown.
For the game, the Lions were 21-of-54, 38,9 percent, and grabbed 33 total rebounds. Rice tallied a total of 19 points, a career high, on eight-of-17 (47 percent). Senior Jasmine Lovejoy and junior Michelle Hedgecock added six points each.
The Lions, who fell to 0-2 on the year, will host the Pizza Hut/Fairfield Inn Thanksgiving Classic this Friday and Saturday. The Lions will take on Avila University Friday night at 7pm and Evangel University on Saturday at 3pm. The RiverHawks, who move to 3-0, will tackle Texas A&M-Kingsville on December 2 in Kingsville, Texas.
