Lions with 1000th Game Over Blue Tigers, 77-51

Joplin, Mo. - The Missouri Southern Lions women's baskeball team (5-3, 3-1 MIAA) defeated the Blue Tigers of Lincoln University (1-6, 0-3 MIAA) 77-51 Saturday afternoon in Joplin.

The game marked the 1000th game in program history for the Lions Women's program which upped their win total to 561 in the program history.

The Lions were led by senior Lindsey Rujawitz who scored a career high 15 points and junior Larrita Gipson who netted 12 points, they are the fifth and sixth Lions to set a new career high in points this season.

Gipson was a perfect four-of-four from three point range while senior Afton Baldwin went three-of-five from downtown.

Rujawitz also led the Lions in rebounds recording seven while fellow senior Jasmine Lovejoy pulled down six along with sophomore Kelby Fritz.

The Lions led from wire to wire with their largest lead coming at the 0:58 mark of the game at 27 points (77-50).  Southern is now a impressive 86-8 under head coach Maryann Mitts when scoring 70+ points in a game.

The Lions will enjoy a longer break this week getting Wednesday night off before heading to Southwest Baptist a week from today to take on the Bearcats.  Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 pm.  The Lions will then return home to Leggett & Platt Athletic Center on January 2nd to take on the Pittsburg State University Gorillas in a 2pm tipoff in the Sonic Trophy Series matchup.
