Lions and Bearcats battle to 0-0 double overtime tie
Joplin, Mo. - The Missouri Southern Lions closed out their home season with a 0-0 double overtime tie with Northwest Missouri State on Thursday night.
The Lions were led by junior Shannon Kuhn, who recorded five shots on the night, and senior Sarah Evers, who added four. Kuhn had two chances at the end of the second overtime to give the Lions the win as one header was blocked by the Northwest Missouri defense and a second one saved by goalie Kelsey Adams.
Defensively the Lions were led in the net by junior Randi Russell as she played all 110 minutes of the match recording eight saves. The Southern defense, after giving up 14 shots in regulation, held the Bearcat offense with out one in both overtime periods.
The tie leaves Southern at 4-8-5 overall, and 4-6-5 in the MIAA and equals the school recored for draws in a season, set at five in 2005. The Lions close out their season on the road this Saturday as they travel to Bolivar, Mo. to take on the Bearcats of Southwest Baptist University, kickoff is scheduled for 1pm.
