Joplin, Mo. -- The Missouri Southern Women's soccer squad (0-1) saw themselves down 2-0 at the half and came roaring back to tie the match at 2-2 with just 14:00 remaining. But University of Missouri-St. Louis (1-0) had one more goal in them as they escaped with a 3-2 season opening win at Hal Bodon Field in Joplin.
The Lions saw two athletic goals scored by UMSL's Kaylee Neutzling in the first half before senior midfielder Shannon Kuhn scored off of a header from fellow senior midfielder Brianna McKenzie and then Kuhn scored on a penalty kick after a foul by the Tritans in the box.
UMSL would then get a final goal from Neutzling, to give her a hat trick, off an assist from Brittany Harbaugh.
The Lions will return to action Sunday as they host the Hawks of Quincy (Ill.) University in a noon match up at Hal Bodon Field in Joplin.
