Lions Defeat Bearcats in Double OT, 2-1

Bolivar, Mo. –  The Missouri Southern Lions (2-7-1, 2-1-0 MIAA) took and extra 10:43 to defeat the Southwest Baptist Bearcats(2-8-2, 1-3-1 MIAA) 2-1 in MIAA action Thursday afternoon in Bolivar, Mo.

The Bearcats of Southwest Baptist struck first but the Missouri Southern Lions would even the score heading into halftime on a goal by senior Michelle Dimza off a free kick in the 26th minute.  Junior Corinne Tebbs was credited with the assist on Dimza's goal.

The game winner was scored by junior Megan Stueve, her third on the season, on an unassisted breakaway with just  9:17 left in the second overtime.  The win in overtime marks the first overtime victory for Southern since a 2-1 double overtime victory over Missouri Western on Sept. 26, 2009.

Senior Randi Russell and sophomore Abby Risner combined for six saves and Risner recorded the win in the net for Southern.

The Lions will be back in action on Saturday in a MIAA matchup with Fort Hays State University.  Game time is scheduled for 11am at Hal Bodon Field in Joplin, Mo.
