Lions Soccer Wins Third Straight, Down Fort Hays 2-1

Joplin, Mo. -- The Missouri Southern Lions (3-7-1, 3-1-0 MIAA) got off to a slow start falling behind Fort Hays State (4-7-1, 1-4-0 MIAA) 1-0 early in the game but answered back with a goal in the 80th minute to force overtime.

Fort Hays sophomore Joanne Glynn scored in the 11th minute to give the Tigers the 1-0 lead for the majority of the match.

Senior Lindi Spilchen evened the score at 1-1 in the 80th minute, scoring off a free kick from junior Corinne Tebbs, getting an assist from senior Shannon Kuhn to force overtime.  

Senior Alicia Vonderheid scored the game winning goal in the 92nd minute, 2:13 into the extra frame.  The win is the third in a row for Coach Woolard and the Lions after starting the season 0-7-1 and they improve their MIAA record to a 3-1 mark.

Southern will be back in action October 11 as they travel to Washburn to take on the Lady Blues at 6pm.  The Lions will return to Hal Bodon Field on Saturday October 15 as they host the Missouri Western Griffion as 6pm.
