Lions Soccer Wins Again, Improves to 5-1 in MIAA Play

Joplin, Mo. – The Missouri Southern Women's soccer squad (5-7-1, 5-1-0 MIAA) had an impressive first half scoring two goals and defeating the Missouri Western Griffons (3-8-0, 0-5-0 MIAA) 2-0 Saturday night at Hal Bodon Field.

Junior Megan Stueve recorded her fifth goal of the season in the 23rd minute off a breakaway goal after a touch from senior Shannon Kuhn and a slide tackle that set up the breakaway by junior Candis Clark.  Sophomore Dana Wilhelm got in on the scoring action in the 37th minute, scoring her first goal of the year, on a pass from Kuhn.

Senior Randi Russell was perfect in the first 45 minutes in the net for Southern allowing zero goals and recording one save, while sophomore Abby Risner had the indentical line in the second half.

The Lions will be back in action October 20 as they head to Kirksville, Missouri to take on the Truman State Bulldogs at 2pm.  The next home contest for Southern will be October 27 against the Northwest Missouri State Bearcats at 6pm at Hal Bodon Field.
