Kirksville, Mo. – The Missouri Southern Lions (5-8-1, 5-1-0 MIAA) scored in the 60th minute to tie the match with Truman Bulldogs (9-4-2, 6-0-0 MIAA) forcing overtime where the Bulldogs capitalized on a free kick in the 98th minute to come away with the 2-1 victory.
Truman struck first in the 43rd minute as Jaclyn Schumann scored her eighth goal of the season beating Southern senior goalkeeper Randi Russell in a one-on-one situation. The Lions would then even the game up on junior Megan Stueve's sixth goal of the season in the 60th minute off an assist from senior Danai Noftz. Truman's Kelsey Twellman scored the game winner for the Bulldogs in the 98th minute on a free kick after a Missouri Southern foul.
Southern was out shot for the game 25-6 including 6-3 in shots on goal. Sophomore Abby Risner suffered the loss for the Lions after shutting down the Truman offense in the second half and recording three saves.
The Lions will be back in action Saturday as they travel to Warrensburg, Missouri to take on the 15th ranked University of Central Missouri Jennies in a MIAA match at 7pm. Southern will be back at home in conference action Thursday October 27 as they host Northwest Missouri at Hal Bodon Field with kick off scheduled for 6pm.
