Three Lions Named to Soccer All-MIAA
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Three Lions have been named to the All-MIAA Soccer team for the 2011 season. Junior defender Corinne Tebbs earned second team while senior midfielder Michelle Dimza and junior forward Megan Stueve earned honorable mention.
Seven members of the 2011 MIAA Regular Season Champion Central Missouri soccer team were named All-MIAA First Team to headline the all-conference team releasedWednesday by the league office. The selections were made by the league's nine head coaches, and coaches were not permitted to vote for their own players.
Central Missouri senior midfielder Alyssa Rhodes was selected as the MIAA Player of the Year for the second consecutive season after leading the Jennies to a perfect 8-0 leaguerecord (17-1 overall) and their second straight conference title. The Olathe, Kan., product led the conference in both points (32) and goals (14). Rhodes was also a unanimous All-MIAA First Team selection, closing her career as a four-time member of the first team.
Central Missouri forward Nicki Wisnasky is the MIAA Freshman of the Year after a season in which she tied for fourth in the conference in game-winning goals (3) and tied for eighth in the league in goals (7). The Godfrey, Ill., native was an All-MIAA First Team selection as well.
Central Missouri head coach Lewis Theobald was voted MIAA Coach of the Year for the second consecutive season and fourth time overall after guiding the Jennies to their fourth MIAA Championship in five years. With the regular season title, Central Missouriearned the No. 1 seed in the 2011 MIAA Soccer Tournament.
Truman had the second-most first team honorees with three, followed by Northwest Missouri and Southwest Baptist with one apiece.
The 2011 MIAA Soccer Tournament will kick off Thursday at Stanley H. Durwood Soccer Stadium in Kansas City, Mo., with Missouri Southern (No. 3 seed) taking on Southwest Baptist (No. 6 seed) at 3 p.m. Northwest Missouri (No. 4 seed) and Emporia State (No. 5 seed) will face off Thursday at 6 p.m. Friday, Truman (No. 2 seed) will face the winner of Missouri Southern and Southwest Baptist at 1 p.m., followed by Central Missouri (No. 1 seed) taking on the winner of Northwest Missouri and Emporia State at 4 p.m.
