Lions Soccer Advances to the MIAA Post-Season Tournament Championship

Kansas City, Mo. -- The Missouri Southern Lions (9-9-1) advanced Friday afternoon to the MIAA Post-Season Tournament Championship by defeating the second seeded Truman State Bulldogs (11-6-2) 2-1 in OT.

The Lions fell behind in the first half after Truman's Megan Buri scored in the 23rd minute.

Southern faced an uphill battle the second half as the Bulldogs out shot them 7-2.  But the Lions would connect on a goal with :36 seconds left as junior Megan Stueve tied the game, on a pass from junior Corinne Tebbs, as she beat the Truman goalie on a 1v1.

Sophomore goalie Abby Risner came up with three big saves in the overtime period before senior Shannon Kuhn connected with a Tebbs' corner kick in the 95th minute for the win.

With the win the Lions advanced to Sunday's final against the winner of the Central Missouri/Northwest Missouri State game.
