Lions soccer travels to Central Oklahoma for MIAA tournament quarterfinal

Joplin, Mo. - The Missouri Southern Lions soccer team kicks off the MIAA postseason tournament this afternoon at Central Oklahoma at 3 p.m.

Finishing the MIAA regular season with 17 points in conference games, the Lions (5-9-3, 5-5-2 MIAA) have earned the seventh seed in the tournament, while UCO's 30 points in conference action were good for second place behind regular season champion Central Missouri. Meeting once already this season, the Bronchos (14-1-3, 9-0-3 MIAA) defeated the Lions 1-0 in a hard fought game in Edmond, Okla. on Sept. 14.

This afternoon's game will be the Lions third in five days after they split a pair of games on the road this weekend. After losing a 1-0 heartbreaker in overtime at Missouri Western Friday night, the Lions bounced back Sunday afternoon and defeated Northwest Missouri 1-0 in double overtime behind senior forward Megan Stueve's league-leading 13th goal of the season.

With quarterfinal games being played at campus sites today, the semifinals and finals will be hosted by the highest remaining seed after the first round. Semifinal games will be played Friday, with the championship game Sunday.
