Kansas City, Mo. - Sophomore forward Karley Thomas was named the MIAA Women's Soccer Offensive Athlete of the Week, as announced by the conference today.
Helping the Lions snap Central Missouri's 48-match MIAA unbeaten streak in Warrensburg last Thursday, Thomas scored a pair of goals to give the Lions a 2-1 victory over the Jennies. Thomas would score in the 14th minute to give the Lions a 1-0 lead and then add her second goal in the 52nd minute, on a cross from the right side by freshman defender Carly Cecil, to seal the win for the Lions.
It was the Lions' first win over a ranked opponent since 2007, as they became the first MIAA team to defeat the Jennies since Truman defeated UCM 2-1 on October 12, 2009. The sophomore forward from O'Fallon, Mo. also leads the MIAA with five assists on the year to give her a team-high nine points.
The Lions (3-5-3) conclude a three game, seven-day stretch on Wednesday hosting non-conference opponent Rogers State (Okla.) at 6 p.m. for Pink Night at Hal Bodon Field.
