Lions pick up a win in the weight throw on day one of the Fazolis/Baymont Invite

Joplin, Mo. -- The Missouri Southern women's track and field team picked up a win in the weight throw in the first day of the 2010 Fazolis/Baymont Inn Invitational in the Leggett & Platt Athletic Center.

Emilie Mieseler picked up a provisional with a win in the weight throw. She threw the weight a distance of 57-03.00, defeating second place Cortney Vie by more than four feet (53-00.00). Vie's throw was also a provisional distance. Nicole Green was sixth and Kiley Jones was 13th in the event. 

Brandy Simpson finished in fifth in the long jump with a distance of 17-10.75, while Gayla Booth, Cyarra Prince and Lisa Vengels placed 13-14-15. 

JeAnna Sheppard was fourth in the 200 meter dash with a time of 26.93, while Kelly MCKay was fifth with a time of 27.01. Tia Cook placed 14th in the event. Victoria Kline and Katie Schmidt were 8th and 10th in the 3k to round out the night. 

The Lions will get going again tomorrow morning, playing host to the second day of the meet. Events start at 10:30 am.
